Assassination Attempt on Judicial Strike Leader

Unknown men have tried to assassinate the leader of the Colombian judicial workers trade union ASONAL whilst the union is in the midst of an intense strike that has lasted almost three weeks. Fabio Hernandez, President of the union who has visited the UK as a guest of Justice for Colombia, was at home with his family when three men shot at his house shattering the glass in their living room window.

In a statement released today the Colombian Government denies that Mr Hernandez was the victim of an assassination attempt but, confusingly, does admit that his window was shattered by gunshots. Following the attempt Mr Hernandez immediately moved to another residence and publicly called on the authorities to protect his life.
