Colombian army kills COCCAM member, the organisation's 20th victim this year

On 15 December, Colombian soldiers killed Alexander José Padilla Cruz in the Tierra Alta zone in the department of Córdoba.

Alexander was a member of the National Coordinator of Coca, Poppy and Marijuana Growers (COCCAM), an organisation of agricultural workers involved in the development of alternative crop programmes under the terms of the 2016 peace agreement. In 2017, 20 COCCAM members have been murdered as they work to implement the agreement.

Despite the agreement, Colombian security forces' have continued to forcibly remove coca plantations, generating tension with farming communities which have not been provided with alternative means of economic support.
