Following the police killing of indigenous journalist Efigenia Vásquez in October, ESMAD riot police have continued to attack protesters in the Kokonuko zone in Cauca where Efigenia worked, lived and was killed.

Dario Tonte, one of the protest organisers, was seriously injured by a projectile fired by ESMAD troops. According to local reports, he was deliberately targeted. For several months, indigenous communities have been protesting over ancestral claims to land that has been privately sold off.
