A leading member of the chemical, energy, mining and metal workers' trade union in Colombia will be visiting Britain in mid-October to participate in a JFC-organised national speaking tour.
Harold Tello, a member of the national executive of the FUNTRAMINERGETICA federation, is himself a metal worker from the southern town of Yumbo. Due to his union work Harold has been threatened by paramilitaries and he intends to speak to British audiences both about the dangers of trade unionism in Colombia and about the organisational difficulties faced by unions attempting to organise in such an anti-trade union climate.
Harold's agenda so far includes public meetings in Doncaster, Leeds (click here for a flyer) and Newcastle (click here for a flyer)
as well as participation in a Latin America Day event in Birmingham. He will also be addressing the UNISON Wales Policy Weekend, meeting with MPs in London and talking to various trade union leaders about common issues of concern during his stay.
If you would like to meet with Harold or invite him to address a meeting please contact the JFC office.
