Two rural organisers deliberately run over by police in Putumayo

Two rural organisers were left with severe injuries after being run over by police, apparently deliberately, in Putumayo, southern Colombia.

On 31 October, Daniel Andrés Rivas and Jolman Tarache were travelling by motorbike between the towns of Santana and Puerto Asís. They were scheduled to participate in a community meeting around the voluntary removal of coca plantations, which are common in the region and are to be substituted for food crops under the terms of the 2016 peace agreement.

According to the two men, a police patrol that had been following them suddenly sped up and hit them. Both were left with multiple broken bones and taken to hospital in Pasto.
