Police attacked and threatened two journalists who were covering the national strike currently taking place across Colombia. The incident occurred in Catatumbo, northeast Colombia, where police have repressed rural protestors demanding implementation of the peace agreement and improved security for social and political activists.

According to reports, the journalists, Arquímedes Gutiérrez of Nueva Colombia Noticias (NC Noticias) and Luis Fernando Molina of tpolitical organisation Patriotic March, were filming police attacks on protestors when they were detained. They were then assaulted and doused with petrol, as police accused them of 'being informants to the strikers and of notifying peasant farmers so that they can set ambushes'.

Police also confiscated camera and sound equipment, as well as their mobile phones, before returning their possessions without memory cards that contained footage of the strike.

NC Noticias and the Patriotic March have called for an investigation into the incident.
