Amnistied FARC member assassinated

Another member of the FARC who was released from prison after being granted an amnesty under the terms of the peace agreement has been assassinated. Juan Fernando Amaya Valencia was released from Bellavista prison in the city of Medellín on 12 December 2016.

Around 3pm on 12 July Juan Fernando was travelling on a motorbike with a friend when he was intercepted by two unknown men who stated they belonged to the paramilitary group AGC. They retained Juan Fernando and told the person accompanying him to continue on their way. Four hours later Juan Fernando's mother received a phone call saying that her son had been assassinated and that his body was lying by the side of the road.

With this latest killing, 6 FARC members have now been assassinated since the signing of the peace agreement.
