Another FARC member murdered after being released from prison

News from Colombia | on: Thursday, 22 June 2017

Rigobel Quesada was released from prison after being granted an amnesty, but eight days later he was killed. Rigobel was killed as he visited his family in the southern region of San Vicente del Caguan. Whilst authorities deny that the murder had anything to do with his involvement in the FARC, this is the fourth FARC prisoner who has been murdered after his release.

Across the same period family members of FARC members have also been targeted. Six killings have taken place with three members of the same family killed in one massacre and two brothers of an imprisoned guerrilla also murdered.

These occurrences are of extreme concern and bring back all too similar memories of the ten year genocide carried out against the Patriotic Union in the 1980s and 1990 which saw more than 4,000 members and supporters of the party created after a demobilisation process killed.
