NUT send message of solidarity to striking teachers in Colombia

Justice For Colombia News | on: Friday, 9 June 2017

Dear brothers and sisters,

Re: International declaration to support Colombian Federation of Education Workers (FECODE)

We are writing from the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in Great Britain to express our support for the ongoing protest and strike by the Colombian Federation of Education Workers (FECODE) taking place since 19 May 2017.

We send our solidarity to all the teachers who have been on strike, protesting against current working conditions and calling for the Colombian Government to increase access to public education.

Please be rest assured that the NUT fully supports your demands and the work of your union more generally.

We also condemn the actions of the Mobile Anti-Riot Squadron (ESMAD) and the explosion set-off outside the union headquarters.

We wish you success with your strike action and hope that your demands are met.

We will remain vigilant about the situation in Colombia and stand ready to support you in your struggle.

In solidarity,

Kevin Courtney,

General Secretary
