Huber Ballesteros sent death threat

News from Colombia | on: Tuesday, 18 April 2017

There was deep concern for the safety of Huber Ballesteros over the weekend after he was sent a death threat to his mobile phone. The death threat comes less than three months since Huber was released from jail and in the context of a recent surge in killings of community activists.

The threat was received on Sunday 16th April and was sent via wattsapp. An image with the name of the United Self Defence Forces as its title and singling out specifically Huber Ballesteros declared as a “military target” all those it claimed were promoting “Castro Chavistas” ideals and issued a death sentence against them.

Huber Ballestero is the National Secretary of Fensuagro, an Executive Committee member of the Colombian TUC, and National Organiser for The Patriotic March, a political organisation that has had over 125 people murdered since it was founded in 2012.
