Human rights defender shot dead in Medellín

A human rights defender has been killed in Medellín. Ramón Eduardo Acevedo Rojas was shot dead in the centre of the city on 6th June by an assassin who was then captured by police.

Ramón was one of the founders of a municipal Human Rights Committee for Peacebuilding and was part of the human rights committee for the neighbourhood Comuna 10. He had received death threats for his work denouncing extortion in the city but had not received any protection measures from the government.
