Trade Unionist Killed in Cali

SINTRAMASIVO, the Cali transport workers' union has reported the killing on February 15th, of one of its founding members, Efrain Amezqueta. Mr Amezqueta was a member of the SINTRAMASIVO leadership and had been active in denouncing labour violations in the Cali transport system, as well as defending the right to organise of union members.
The recently founded union has been subjected to sanctions by Metrocali, the employer. The Director of Metrocali stated that the assassination had been a robbery, but Mr Amezqueta's union comrades, and his family stated that he had not been robbed.They are calling for his killing to be properly investigated. Mr Amezqueta is the fifth trade unionist to be killed in 2012.
His killing was captured on video, he was shot after a brief struggle. His killers escaped on a motorbike.
