Welsh Assembly tables Statement of Opinion calling for a peace process in Colombia

On 1st February 2012, Justice for Colombia Wales tabled Statement of Opinion OPIN-2012-0057 - Peace and Justice for Colombia, calling on the Welsh and UK governments to support a negotiated end to the armed conflict in Colombia.
The Statement notes calls by significant sectors of Colombian civil society for a lasting peace process and also acknowledges the longstanding work of the Welsh trade unions in solidarity with their colleagues. The Colombian trade unions and other civil society organisations have played a key role in encouraging dialogue and have asked the international community to show its support. JfC Wales’ action is in response to these calls.
The Statement was tabled by Labour AM Vaughan Gething, a longstanding supporter of JFC’s work and signatories include AMs David Rees, Mike Hedges, Julie James and Sandy Mewies. Unite, Unison and Thompsons Wales are supporting the statement.
