SINTRAINAGRO Trade Unionist Killed

Jorge Alberto Durante was shot and killed in El Cortijo on 3rd September at 6pm. A member of SINTRAINAGRO, he was also the treasurer of the Democratic Pole opposition party in the town of Carepa.
His killing forms part of a pattern of assassination attempts against members of the Democratic Pole. On August 18th Duban Velez was victim of an assassination attempt which wounded his bodyguard. Mr Velez is a member of the SINTRALIMENTICIA food workers’ union and a Democratic Pole councillor.
On the 1st of August another Democratic Pole leader was shot at by motorbike-riding men in Medellin. Over Dorado Cardona is the FECODE teachers’ union national secretary for labour issues and a leading figure in the Democratic Pole in the department of Antioquia.
