Three trade unionists assassinated by Colombian Army
Members of the 13th Brigade of the Colombian Army have murdered three trade union members who they detained six days ago in the municipality of Orito in Putumayo department.
36-year-old Simon Coreno (ID 78587031) and 35-year-old Gentil Yascuaran Pai (ID 18144688), both members of the regional agricultural workers' trade union FUNDAPROGRESO, were both detained in the village of El Amarradero on September 8th at around 3.30pm. Around an hour later 30-year-old Feliciano Obando (ID 87415043), a member of the same union, was detained in the nearby community of Rancheria.
For two days the 13th Brigade told friends and families of the three men that they had no record of the detention. Yet on September 11th Colonel Cadena, commander of the 'El Empalme' military base, admitted that three civilians had been accidentally killed during fighting. The national newspaper 'El Tiempo' subsequently reported that three FARC guerrillas had been killed in combat.
A request to the Colombian Ministry of Defence to clarify what happened has remained unanswered and the union to which the men belonged have charged that all three were murdered in cold blood at some point after their detention. | top | back | print friendly | | |||||||||||||||||||||||
